WikiGenetics and WikiAdvocacy

wikigenetics.org
WikiGenetics was created by Genetic Alliance to provide an open-source, user-generated, lay-language genetics encyclopedia for the public. It allows users to view and edit pages. To ensure credibility, WikiGenetics requires references for all contributions. An editorial board comprised of experts in genetics is in place to review all additions to the site and ensure that all information is highly credible.

A few ways to contribute:

  • Create a new page
  • Make a wanted page (create a new page and leave the content blank)
  • Add something to the “To do” list in the community portal
  • Fix spelling errors or grammatical mistakes you find while reading
  • Revise an existing entry to make it more lay-friendly, comprehensive, or accurate.

wikiadvocacy.org
WikiAdvocacy is based on the Interactive Guide to Advocacy by Sharon F. Terry, President and CEO of Genetic Alliance. The guide covers every aspect of founding and managing the growth of an advocacy organization—from fundraising to detailed explanations of creating a registry or samples repository. WikiAdvocacy is designed to be interactive, so additions and updates based on personal experience can only enhance the value of the tool.

A few ways to contribute:

  • Add relevant external and internal links
  • Update old information
  • Add new topics
  • Rephrase material
  • Post notices if you find a page that needs to be fixed or has been vandalized

We invite each user to enhance the Wikis’ value by editing content. The instructions on the site make this process simple and fun. Any user can be an author or editor!
