Genetic Alliance Issues Statement Commemorating the Life of The Honorable Paul G. Rogers
WASHINGTON – October 14, 2008 – Genetic Alliance President and CEO, Sharon Terry, today made the following remarks at the news of the death of The Honorable Paul G. Rogers:
“We have always deeply appreciated Paul Rogers’ work. He personified our understanding of advocacy – dynamic, committed and focused. His contributions have been the bedrock upon which much of our work within the genetics community is built.
He has truly earned his nickname, ‘Mr. Health’, through his service as a Congressman, often fulfilling leadership roles including chairing the Subcommittee on Health and the Environment. Further, his work on landmark legislation such as the National Cancer Act of 1971 and 1977 and the Medicare-Medicaid Anti-Fraud and Abuse Amendments of 1977 have improved American health systems.
I had the pleasure of sharing dinner with Paul last year, and was again struck by his passion for health. His life exemplifies that of a champion of issues related to health, science and the environment. Our heartfelt condolences to the Rogers family as we all mourn his loss and reflect on his life, service and accomplishments.”
