The North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. (NASCF) works to improve the quality of life for people who suffer from Sickle Cell Conditions. The organization provides educational enrichment as well as opportunities for career planning, health promotion and disease prevention activities, and socialization. NASCF works closely with the State Department of Public Health in counseling and educating the parents of children with Sickle Cell Trait or Hemoglobin C Trait test results and in tracking newborns in North Alabama diagnosed as having a Sickle Cell Condition. People Involved

Pamela D. Thompson, Executive Director
Pamela D. Thompson is the Executive Director of the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation, Incorporated. She provides leadership for the strategic direction for the Center including all financial and operational functions of the Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation two years ago, she spent over thirty years in higher education at in various capacities; Alumni and Development, Budget Analyst, Fundraiser, Recruiter, Education Specialist, Counselor/Mentor and Planner.She has been active for thirty-three years in civic and cultural organizations to include United Way, March of Dimes, and Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Ms. Thompson has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture with a minor in Biology, Master of Science in Technology Education, and more than thirty hours toward the Education Specialist in Administration in Higher Education, all from Alabama A&M University.

McArthur Johnson, Patient Relations Educator/Counselor
Mr. Johnson is the Patient Relations Educator/Counselor for the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. Mr. Johnson began service at NASCF as a volunteer for the Foundation which eventually led to his full time employment. Mr. Johnson has worked with the Foundation for over twenty years. He coordinates communication between patients, family members, medical staff, administrative staff, and medical agencies. Mr. Johnson is a Certified Sickle Cell Counselor. Mr. Johnson has a B. S. Degree in Business from Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama.

 


Mildred Stiger, Office Assistant
Mildred Stiger is the Office Assistant for the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation. She is responsible for organizing and coordinating office operations and procedures. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2013, Ms. Stiger was the University Archivist at Alabama A&M University for over 20 years. She began her career as a Librarian at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Her Librarian career then led her to The National Defense University in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Alexandria, Virginia. She returned to Huntsville, Alabama to Alabama A&M University as the University Archivist where she retired in 2012. Ms. Stiger has a Bachelor of Science degree in History and a Master’s of Library Science from Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama.

 

 Dr. Wendolyn Crutcher-Lafleur, Education Specialist
Dr. Wendolyn Crutcher-LaFleur is the Education Specialist for the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. She provides education and services related to sickle cell disease. Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. LaFleur has over twenty years in higher education. Dr. Crutcher-LaFleur has a B.S. Degree in Business Education and Mathematics and M.S. Business Education Degree from Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama; EdD degree in Administration Leadership from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
