In Loving Memory of The Honorable Paul G. Rogers
The Honorable Paul G. Rogers’ work will always be deeply appreciated. He personified advocacy—dynamic, committed, and focused. His contributions have been the bedrock upon which much of our work within the genetics community is built. He has truly earned his nickname “Mr. Health” through his service as a U.S. Congressman, representing Florida (1955-1979). He often fulfilled leadership roles, including chairing the Subcommittee on Health and the Environment. Furthermore, his work on landmark legislation such as the National Cancer Act of 1971 and 1977 and the Medicare-Medicaid Anti-Fraud and Abuse Amendments of 1977 have vastly improved American health systems. Among the awards recognizing his contribution to health, the main plaza at the National Institutes of Health was named in his honor by an act of Congress. His life exemplifies that of a champion of issues related to health, science, and the environment. Our heartfelt condolences to the Rogers family as we all mourn his loss and reflect on his life, service, and accomplishments.
