General Position Overview
Working in a team environment, the Program Assistant will be an energetic and experienced self-starter. This person will provide administrative and programmatic support for Genetic Alliance programs and partnerships, with particular focus on the Newborn Screening Clearinghouse (Baby’s First Test), the National Consumer Center on Genetics Resources and Services, and emerging projects. The aforementioned series of programs focus on the intersection of genetics and public health, which should been of keen interest to the Program Assistant, as well as broader issues in health, including children and youth with special healthcare needs, genetics education and training for the public and providers, access to services for underserved and underrepresented communities, and implementation of health communications principles to conduct campaigns and wide-scale education initiatives.
Specific tasks related to this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Administrative support for grant-related activities, including writing and distributing meeting summaries and reports
- Scheduling and coordination of meetings
- Researching and stay current on issues related to maternal and child health as well as
health communication - Interact and follow up with various partners in the genetics and health community
- Writing manuscripts and other narratives for publication, crafting abstract submissions, and designing posters and presentations as associated with programs
- Maintain and expand online and print resources and tools, including ensuring the Genetic Alliance and associated websites accurately reflect the most current updates on projects
- Coordinate projects with Genetic Alliance’s internal communications and outreach teams as well as those projects of maternal and child health interns
- Update features on Baby’s First Test website
QUALIFICATIONS – Program Assistant
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. 1-2 years relevant work experience and an interest in health
preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:

- Able to work independently and as a team when needed
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Able to adjust projects mid-course, due to new information and reprioritization
- Superior organization and time management skills with special attention to detail
- Transitions efficiently between different project including detail-oriented task and big
picture thinking - Communicates clearly and accurately to a range of audiences, both verbally and in
writing - Strong interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred:
- Experience coordinating meetings, teleconferences, and electronic forums
- Familiarity with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and blogging for information dissemination
- Familiarity with online survey, scheduling, and collaboration platforms, such as Zoomerang, SurveyMonkey, Doodle, and Google Docs
- Working understanding of public health systems
- Interest in marketing/outreach to range of communities and organizations
