Improving Patient Outcomes Through Targeted Therapeutics and Electronic Delivery Systems

Improving Patient Outcomes Through Targeted Therapeutics and Electronic Delivery Systems

Workshops: Session III
Saturday, July 17, 2010
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Personalized medicine optimizes healthcare by incorporating pharmacogenomics-based tests into medication selection and dosing recommendations. Although approved tests are available for targeted therapeutics, the challenge remains to achieve clinical uptake. Electronic clinical decision support may drive both the acceptance and adaptation of electronic health records (EHR) systems by providing genetically-informed prescription information at point-of-care. US policymakers, pharmacies, and insurers are addressing the ethical and socio-economical challenges of targeted therapeutics.
