On July 16-18, 2010, Genetic Alliance held its Annual Conference – Advancing Novel Partnerships – at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in metro Washington, D.C. The Genetic Alliance Annual Conference is consistently inspirational and enables partnership among all stakeholders: advocates and community leaders, health and industry professionals, policymakers, and academicians.

On Friday, July 16, 2010, participants chose from four daylong symposia on Research, Genetics Services, Organizational Development, and Transformational Leadership. Later, participants enjoyed a new format for dinner, and chose from two simultaneous debates: each debate offered a unique opportunity for cutting-edge discourse relevant to the genetics community.
On Saturday, July 17, 2010, workshops shed new light on a range of topics, from health IT to community engagement and, of course, partnerships. Saturday evening, the community celebrated our award winners in advocacy, reporting, listening, and novel partnerships.
On Sunday, July 18, 2010, participants chose to revisit principles from the leadership daylong symposium or to explore the more free-form “Open Innovation” sessions, which allowed them to create their workshops.
Funding for this conference was made possible (in part) by R13 HG005190 from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), the Office of Rare Diseases Research (ORDR), the National Eye Institute (NEI), the National Institute of Child Health Development (NICHD), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute of Aging (NIA), the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), U33MC07945 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
