Genetics research involving communities has raised concerns about the impact of research on these communities. This session describes a framework for conducting responsible genetics research in cultural and linguistic minority groups that combines a biomedical approach with a deaf studies approach. We illustrate its application to a novel cross-cultural, multidisciplinary project assessing the impact of genetic testing on deaf individuals and the deaf community. This approach promotes community participation and implementation of quality of genetic counseling services and other healthcare. Presenters: |
