2008 Genetic Alliance Annual Conference
| Focus on Transformational Leadership
A letter from Sharon Terry, |
On July 11-13, Genetic Alliance held its 2008 Annual Conference at the Bethesda North Marriott in Bethesda, MD. Like last year’s conference, which was attended by more than 200 advocates, health professionals, policymakers, industry professionals, and community leaders, the 2008 conference provided an outstanding opportunity to participate in cutting-edge workshops and insightful discussions.
The conference kicked off with four concurrent daylong symposia—Leadership, Organizations, Policy, and Research.
Saturday and Sunday were organized around workshops and panel discussions centered on cutting-edge topics of international significance. Conference topics covered issues such as clinical research, delivery of services, education and information, family health history, health disparities, health information technology, and newborn screening.
Throughout the conference, participants had ample opportunity during long meals and breaks to network and socialize. Saturday evening featured our signature awards banquet celebrating outstanding individuals and organizations in advocacy, reporting, industry, and healthcare. The conference ended on July 13, following panel discussions and a dynamic concluding keynote address.
