Symma Finn, MA, PhD Symma Finn is an applied anthropologist completing a doctorate on patient empowerment in the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency community. Her research interests encompass global lung health issues, environmental impacts on health, social issues related to genetics research, and language use in medical care. Her anthropological expertise incorporates linguistic analyses, ethnographic interview techniques, survey design, and narrative analysis. Symma has over 24 years’ experience in research administration that includes institutional research, project and data management, organization of scientific meetings and workshops, and grants administration. She worked for the Alpha-1 Foundation as Director, Research and Grants, from 1999-2005 and currently consults for the Alpha-1 Foundation and COPD Foundation on research projects. Symma has served as editorial assistant for scientific journals and, more recently, focuses on the development of health and scientific educational materials and the translation of technical and scientific work. |
