Andria Cornell Andria Cornell returned to Genetic Alliance after earning a Bachelors of Science in Biology with minors in Business Administration and Art History from The George Washington University in May 2008. She pursues her passion for grassroots organization and empowerment in managing the annual advocacy event for the genetics community, Genetics Day on the Hill, as well as broader consumer engagement initiatives, including Genetic Alliance’s Consumer Task Forces, the Advocates Partnership Program, and the Consumer Focused Newborn Screening Qualitative and Quantitative Projects. Andria collaborates with Genetic Alliance’s policy and outreach teams to coordinate the organization’s policy initiatives and engage and inform the network through use of listservs, social media, and novel communication tools. Andria first joined Genetic Alliance in August 2006 as a public policy intern. Immediately feeling drawn to the Genetic Alliance advocacy community and realizing the crucial role grassroots efforts play in the policymaking process, Andria continued her work the following year part-time as Public Policy Program Assistant. In this position, she surveyed stakeholders in the genetics community about their policy concerns and collaborated with members of the policy team to research genetic testing issues for the Genetic Testing Summit in September 2007. At the same time, Andria followed her interest in pediatric medicine at Children’s National Medical Center, contributing to a cerebral palsy study. Andria also has experience with health clinic operations and molecular biology and biochemical laboratory research. |
