Protect the NIH Public Access Policy

Support open access to NIH-funded research by asking your elected officials to oppose H.R. 6845.

The NIH Public Access Policy is a federal requirement that recipients of NIH funds submit their peer-reviewed articles for online publication on PubMed Central (PMC) within 12 months of publication. The purpose of the policy is to provide the public and research community open and free access to federally-funded research, ensuring the value within that research is more widely distributed.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2008, Representative John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary, introduced H.R. 6845, the “Fair Copyrights in Research Works Act.” The legislation seeks to limit the NIH Public Access Policy.
